A confident and interactive reptile with tons of personality, the Juvenile Bearded Dragon is a firm favourite for beginner and experienced keepers alike. With their expressive eyes, curious nature, and signature “beard” display, these dragons are as engaging as they are easy to care for.
As juveniles, Bearded Dragons typically range from 6–10 inches in length but grow rapidly with proper diet and care — eventually reaching 18–24 inches as adults. Known for their social nature, they’re among the few reptiles that seem to recognise their keepers, often greeting them with head bobs or even climbing onto hands for handling.
Juvenile Beardies are active during the day (diurnal), love to bask under heat lamps, and benefit from regular handling to stay confident and relaxed. Their care involves providing a warm basking spot, UVB lighting, and a desert-style enclosure with dry substrate, hides, and climbing features.
Their diet as juveniles is insect-heavy, with live foods like crickets, locusts, and roaches being essential for healthy growth — supplemented with chopped greens and vegetables to establish good eating habits.
Captive bred and widely available in a variety of morphs and colours, Bearded Dragons (Pogona vitticeps) originate from the arid regions of Central Australia. They thrive in warm, dry environments and can live for 10–15 years in captivity with the right setup and nutrition.
