The Het Axanthic Carpet Python is a sleek and genetically intriguing variation of the Carpet Python (Morelia spilota), offering keepers a chance to own a python with subtle but powerful breeding potential. “Het” stands for “heterozygous,” meaning this snake carries one copy of the Axanthic gene—a trait that removes yellow pigmentation and produces monochrome, grayscale offspring when paired with another Axanthic or Het Axanthic.
Visually, Het Axanthics may look similar to standard Carpet Pythons, but often with slightly cooler tones and more contrast in their pattern. Their genetic value, however, makes them particularly attractive to breeders or those looking to dip their toes into the world of reptile genetics.
Like other Carpet Pythons, they’re alert, active, and intelligent. They enjoy exploring their enclosure and often show curiosity during handling. Although they can be a bit nippy as juveniles, with regular and confident handling they usually grow into calm, manageable adults.
The Het Axanthic Carpet Python typically reaches 6–8 feet in length and has a long, lean build. They thrive in a spacious, secure setup with climbing branches, hiding spots, and consistent heating. Their care needs are similar to other Carpet Pythons—moderate humidity, regular feeding (once every 1–2 weeks), and a clean, enriched environment.
With a lifespan of 15–20 years, they’re a rewarding long-term companion for keepers who want something a bit different from the norm—whether for breeding projects or simply owning a snake with hidden potential.
